Best Management Practices Affect Water Quality in Coastal Watersheds

چکیده
Coastal ecosystems are vulnerable due to watershed sediment and nutrient loads. In this study, the hydrology water quality of two coastal watersheds, Wolf River (WRW) Jourdan (JRW), were assessed using Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). Model performance evaluation was performed coefficient determination (R2) Nash–Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE). After model calibration validation, effectiveness ponds, wetlands, riparian buffers, their combination as best management practices (BMPs) analyzed. Total suspended solids (TSS) reduced by 31.15% in pond scenario 30.37% wetland WRW. addition, mineral phosphorous (MinP) 11.84% 9.63% ponds respectively. Similarly, JRW, TSS 74.89% 74.90% wetlands. Likewise, wetlands MinP 8.05% 13.40%, Among four buffer scenarios, 30 m prompted estimation higher reductions such 28.36% 29.77% WRW, whereas a 13.14% 22.89% reduction JRW. combined BMP, 52.09% followed 74.92% 27.37% All BMP implementations effective reducing MinP. This study suggests that buffers These findings could be insightful management.

Combined effects of best management practices on water quality in oxbow lakes from agricultural watersheds
Water quality conditions in three oxbow lakes were examined before and after best management practices (BMPs) implementation within the Mississippi Delta. Experimental design called for the development of structural and cultural treatments to reduce sediment and associated pollutants entering watershed oxbow lakes. Three watersheds were selected and developed with different levels of BMPs. Chan...

متن کاملOn optimal placement of best management practices in agricultural watersheds
This article presents analysis and synthesis of findings concerning the problem of costeffective placement of best management practices (BMPs) emerging from NIFA CEAP and the USDA NRCS jointly-funded competitive grant projects, and future research needs. The synthesis focuses on two fundamental aspects of the cost-effectiveness problem: (1) how to assess the locationand farmer-specific costs of...
متن کاملCHARGED SYSTEM SEARCH FOR OPTIMUM DESIGN OF COST-EFFECTIVE STRUCTURAL BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES FOR IMPROVING WATER QUALITY
Best Management Practices (BMPs) are implemented in a watershed to reduce the amount of non-point source pollutants transported to water bodies. However, an optimization algorithm is required to choose the efficient type, size, and location of BMPs for application in a watershed for improving the water quality. In this study, the Charged System Search, a well-known and powerful meta-heuristic o...
